Crimea: a fire followed by an explosion of ammunition injures two in a Russian base, according to Moscow

A fire that caused an explosion of ammunition occurred on Tuesday morning at a Russian military base in Crimea, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced.

The fire reportedly broke out around 5:15 a.m. French time in a temporary ammunition depot at a Russian base in the district of Jankoy, in the north of the peninsula annexed by Russia, the ministry said in a statement, quoted by the news agencies. Russian press.

"Following the fire, a detonation of ammunition occurred," he said.

The governor of Crimea, Sergei Aksionov, who went to the scene, indicates that two civilians were injured, while the evacuation of the inhabitants of a neighboring village was in progress.

At 8:15 a.m. French time, the explosion was still continuing, Mr. Aksionov said on Telegram.

This incident comes a week after an explosion of ammunition intended for military aviation at a depot located on the territory of the Saki military airfield in western Crimea.

These explosions left one dead and several injured.

Crimea, a peninsula of Ukraine annexed in 2014 by Moscow, has been on the front line of Russia's military offensive against its Ukrainian neighbor since February 24.
