Dachau – The reason for the decision is the extreme drought that has lasted for weeks and the associated significant risk of forest fires around Dachau Castle.
"There is currently an incalculable risk when burning fireworks," says a corresponding press release.
Even intermittent thunderstorms on Thursday would not change the danger situation.
Fireworks in Dachau: replacement date pending
Whether the fireworks can take place on the replacement date, Sunday, August 21, depends on the amount of precipitation to be expected by then and will be reassessed by the city and fire brigade at the end of the week.
The city of Dachau regrets the cancellation for Thursday and asks the citizens for their understanding.
City Councilor Wolfgang Moll (Wir), who had applied for the fireworks to be abolished in July - among other things because of the possible risk of fire and the war situation in Ukraine - should now feel confirmed.
The fireworks were "out of date," said Moll in the discussion at the time by the culture committee responsible for the folk festival.
The opponents of his application - these were the councilors of the CSU, SPD, Greens and folk festival speaker Robert Gasteiger (FW) - argued that even the city of Munich, which is much more urban and densely populated than Dachau, continues to organize fireworks.
As long as the fire brigade agrees to fireworks, there is nothing to be said against it.
The decision-making authority should therefore lie with the fire brigade and the town hall officials responsible for security and not with the city council.
If they were to reject fireworks, as has now happened, then it would be okay, according to the opinion of the committee at the time.
