A first case of monkeypox has been detected in Iran, in a woman, the Ministry of Health reported on Tuesday (August 16th).

The case was identified in a 34-year-old woman, after observation of her skin lesions
," ministry spokesman Pedram Pakaeen said in a statement.
“
The patient, who lives in Ahvaz (south-west), was immediately placed in quarantine
,” he added, without specifying how she had been contaminated.

The first symptoms of monkeypox are a high fever, swollen lymph nodes, and a chickenpox-like rash.
According to the latest report from the World Health Organization (WHO), 31,665 cases including 12 deaths have been recorded worldwide.
The WHO triggered the highest level of alert, the Public Health Emergency of International Concern, on July 24 to strengthen the fight against the disease.
