First drive: Genesis GV60

2022-08-16T04:41:00.573Z

The Genesis GV60 is the first dedicated all-electric car from the South Korean premium manufacturer. With the use of the electric platform of the Hyundai concern, and comprehensive changes to the shell, the result is quite impressive

At the end of the day, the biggest question posed by the Genesis GV60 is a question of value.

Or in other words, is it different enough from the Hyundai Ioniq 5 on which it is based and manages to create a premium feeling against the price tag required for it.

The answer is positive and unequivocal.

The strongest and most expensive version on offer was put to the test.

As mentioned, the GV60 is based on the successful electric platform of the Hyundai concern.

In this version, it is equipped with two electric motors producing 489 hp which costs NIS 439,000.

The Genesis interpretation presents a completely different look than the original car.

Less futuristic and much more now and even powerful.

The dimensions are also different, with the GV60 being a bit smaller.

The passenger cabin also feels quite different mainly thanks to the use of nice and pleasant materials.

With a passenger cabin immersed in leather and more the feeling required due to the price tag is obtained.

Even small highlights such as the gear selector that disappears when turned off and various buttons on the steering wheel, give a different and more meticulous feeling here despite the similar basic arrangement.

Here, too, there are two large screens in front, impressive to look at and easy to operate.

Also in the news segment, there are cameras that replace the exterior mirrors.

It works better and more naturally than those we've encountered from other manufacturers, but still feels incredibly unnecessary.

The list of accessories here is very long, starting from the weak and significantly cheaper base version.

Among other things, this GV can be driven out of a crowded parking lot using the smart key.

The performance potential hidden under the skin of this GV60 is impressive by any measure.

The accelerations produced by the two electric motors are enormous, both when leaving the place and during overtaking.

There's enough power and pull here to put more powerful, expensive and reputable cars to shame.

The entire operation is quite natural and even the regenerative braking system, which offers a multitude of options, makes the use easy and pleasant.

The GV60 feels much more focused and frantic than the source car.

Perhaps the reduced length dimension, perhaps the preferred tires, this Genesis feels tight, responsive and, as mentioned, very fast.

With all the power sent to the wheels, the driver would do well to have the stability control active.

The power rushes through the front wheels, not shy about breaking their grip, then joins in from the rear, with exactly the same effect.

For the benefit of steering wheel enthusiasts, there is also a dedicated 'drift' mode.

But getting to it is cumbersome and its relevance to the target audience is questionable.

The result so far is quite impressive and the complaints section is quite short.

With such a performance envelope the driver finds himself drawn to accelerate again and again.

In this way it will be difficult to achieve a driving range that exceeds 400 km between charges (very fast).

The 21-inch rims and the low-cut tires take a toll on sharp bumps and slightly impair ride comfort.

Despite these, it is a comfortable and quite quiet car.

Genesis took a very successful platform and placed on it a new design and a revolutionized cabin.

The result is very successful and this is absolutely a car that can set eyes on the best European premium products, without regrets, almost without.

This particular version is expensive and very powerful and will suit those for whom performance is an integral part of their list of requirements.

Those who can be satisfied with a little less power, will find an answer in the premium version with double drive and will also save themselves about NIS 125,000.

Either way, this is one of the best cars in this price range.

Electric or not at all.
