A three-day festival was appropriate to the occasion.

Better still: the occasions.

Fürholzen has been around for 1250 years.

And the church hall was dedicated.

Fürholzen

- It was a weekend dedicated to history: For three days, the 1250th birthday of the town was celebrated in Fürholzen.

But not only the history was honored: With the official inauguration of the new community center, the present and the future also came into their own.

In the year 772 falls the first documented mention of "Furihulci".

Preparations for the big festival in Fürholzen have been in full swing since March

The villagers only noticed in autumn 2021 that the 1250th anniversary of the village could be celebrated this year, said local spokesman Rainer Bachmeier on the fringes of the festivities in an FT interview.

Then you had to wait and see how the Corona situation developed, so that the preparations only really started in March 2022.

But because all clubs helped together, a nice party was organized, said Bachmeier.

Mayor Franz Heilmeier, who accompanied the celebrations, could only agree: the organizational team had created a "proper framework" for the town's birthday.

Village festival, exhibition and blessing of the parish hall

The starting signal was given on Friday when the people of Fürholzen were invited to the village festival on the square in front of the community center, while the exhibition about Fürholzen was opened on the first floor of the community center: The picture was shaped by countless 1:30 models of old Fürholzen buildings that Alfred Ballauf had built in years of work based on old views and photographs.

Particularly exciting: the old recordings from which Ballauf had worked could be seen on partition walls.

The new parish hall in Fürholzen has long since been handed over to its intended purpose.

It was consecrated at the weekend on the occasion of the 1250th anniversary.

There were also documents on the history of Fürholzen compiled by the historical researcher Ernst Keller – newspaper clippings, illustrations of old documents and much more.

All in all "a rich picture" of the history of Fürholzen, praised Heilmeier.

Saturday was all about families, with an afternoon café and children's program before Ernst Keller's film "When the air war came to our homeland" was shown in the evening.

The highlight of the three days of celebration was certainly the outdoor festival service on Sunday followed by the inauguration of the community building.

Pastor Anton Erber, who stood in for the sick auxiliary bishop Bernhard Haßlberger, recalled that the year 772 also marks the beginning of the history of the parish of Fürholzen.

Spiritual gentlemen have always had a strong influence on the place.

The history of Fürholzen is determined by church life, and if the voice of the church does not fall silent, then that is "a blessing for the place," said Mayor Heilmeier.

The new community center, which has been filled with life for a long time, but only received its church consecration on Sunday, has long since become the new town center, stressed Heilmeier.

The festival weekend once again proved this impressively.

Because: "The future needs a past."
