(CNN Spanish) --

On August 11, the American Automobile Association (AAA, for its acronym in English) announced that the average price of a gallon of gasoline in the United States was below US $ 4 per first time since March.

This was good news for consumers, as high prices did not seem to give up in the country.

In addition to the fact that the average cost of gasoline at the national level had not gone below US$4 per gallon for four months, in June it increased in such a way that it reached a record of US$5.02 in the middle of the summer holidays.

From this record point in June so far, prices at gas stations are down 21%, as drivers cut back on spending and fears of an economic downturn threatened to dampen demand.

Despite this decline, prices are still 25% higher than last year at this time.

But the current decline is at least an advance.

The price of gasoline at the national level has remained below US$4 until this week.

The AAA points out that this Tuesday the average cost in the US is US $ 3,949.

Due to these drops in price, it is expected that before the end of the year the cost of a gallon of gasoline will drop below US$3 in much of the country.
