The first lady of the United States, Jill Biden, has tested positive for covid-19 just 10 days after the president, Joe Biden, came out of his quarantine after overcoming the disease.

Jill Biden has mild symptoms, a spokeswoman for her office said in a statement Tuesday.

The first lady is vaccinated with the complete schedule and two booster doses and the doctor has prescribed Paxlovid, Pfizer's antiviral.

“After testing negative for COVID-19 on Monday during her usual testing cadence, the First Lady began developing cold-like symptoms in the late afternoon.

She came back negative on a rapid antigen test, but a PCR test came back positive,” said Elizabeth Alexander, her director of communications.

The first lady is currently Kiawah Island (South Carolina), where she has been spending a few days on vacation with the president.

Joe Biden is scheduled to return to Washington on Tuesday to sign the Inflation Reduction Act.

Both the president and the first lady were scheduled to participate in a Democratic National Committee event next week in Maryland.

Jill Biden will remain in the private residence in South Carolina where she was spending a few days and will return to the White House when she has two consecutive negative tests.

She will remain a minimum of five days in quarantine.

Joe Biden tested positive for coronavirus on July 21.

His symptoms were mild from the beginning: a runny nose, fatigue, a bit of a hacking cough.

The White House doctor treated him with the antiviral drug Paxlovid and his symptoms remained under control.

On Tuesday, July 26, he tested negative for the first time, with which he seemed to have overcome the disease very quickly.

However, after also testing negative the following three days, on Saturday the 30th he tested positive again.

His doctor attributed the new positives to a "rebound" that occurs only exceptionally.

Then, on Saturday, August 6, he tested negative again.
