Dermatologist Majd Ahmed explained that scabies is a skin disease that affects all ages and genders and spreads rapidly in conditions of crowding, lack of care, personal hygiene, deteriorating economic situation and lack of health awareness.
Ahmed added, in a statement to SANA reporter: that the disease is transmitted through close contact with an infected person directly or indirectly through the infected person’s personal tools, clothes and bed linen, but the infection is not transmitted through handshaking usually, as it is easily transmitted between family members who live in a house One and they share their stuff.
Regarding the symptoms of the disease, Ahmed indicated that they appear after an incubation period ranging from 2 to 6 weeks after infection and may be shortened to 24 to 48 hours when exposed to the parasite, where the patient complains of generalized itching in the body, especially at night or after a hot bath. Accompanied by various cutaneous eruptions of small erythematous papules and abrasions and we find characteristic nodules, vesicles and tunnels burrowed by the female scabies parasite in the epidermis.
Ahmed indicated that the eruptions are usually found in the spaces between the fingers, wrist, armpits, around the navel and the genital area, and usually spare the face, scalp, palms and soles, except in infants. An allergic urticarial reaction and secondary bacterial infection may occur in some people. We may find severe and dangerous forms of scabies exfoliative scabies in Patients with acquired immunodeficiency and immunosuppressive tumors are highly contagious.
As for the treatment, Dr. Ahmed says that the victim and his family members or those in direct contact with him should receive treatment even if they have not yet shown symptoms, as several types of pharmaceutical preparations are available to treat scabies and are given under the supervision of a specialist doctor.
He stressed that all clothes, bed linen and towels that the patient used must be washed, boiled in hot water, ironed, or exposed to direct sunlight for at least three consecutive days, or placed in an airtight bag for five days.
