At Schwabach there was an unusual mission for the rescue workers.

A horse blocked the highway completely.

A man was injured.

Schwabach - In its latest press release, the traffic police in Feucht reported on an "unusual operation" on Sunday afternoon (August 14) on the A6 near Schwabach.

A6/Schwabach: rampaging horse?

- Owner calm animal

First, a traffic police patrol was called to a car with a horse trailer that was parked on the shoulder and in which a four-year-old horse was "rambling".

The horse was initially calmed down by the owners on site, according to the police.

However, a further transport was "out of the question due to the extremely tense behavior of the horse."

Horse breaks loose: danger for drivers on the A6 near Schwabach - full lock

"Even before any measures could be taken, the horse suddenly freed itself from the closed trailer through a hatch, fell onto the road and then got over the right-hand crash barrier, where the horse could be held and calmed down again," it says press release further.

Since there was a risk that the horse would break away again - which would have been dangerous for the traffic on the A6 as well as for the animal itself - the autobahn in the direction of Heilbronn had to be completely closed for two hours.

In the direction of Amberg, a full closure was also required at times.

According to the police, the horse and the two owners were between the outer crash barrier and the high noise protection wall near Schwabach, which is why leaving the motorway would only have been possible at the next junction, Schwabach-West.

Horse on the Autobahn near Nuremberg: the police report a "tragic incident"

The owners (20 and 22 years old) led the horse towards the junction until the animal again refused and blocked due to a traffic sign.

"Since the horse also braced itself against climbing over the guardrail, a veterinarian from the southern district had to be called in for technical assistance to open the guardrail and to further calm the horse," said the police.

According to the police, a “tragic incident” occurred before the fire brigade arrived.

Accordingly, an informed acquaintance (34) of the horse owner approached the "disturbed and highly nervous horse obviously without prior consultation".

The animal's sudden exit and shying hit him with his hoof in the stomach.

He was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

It was only after the safety barrier was opened and the horse sedated by the veterinarian that the horse, which had suffered minor injuries from the fall, could be put back into the trailer and transported to a riding stable near Hilpoltstein.

A family of ducks waddled in the middle of the street through the old town of Würzburg.

That called the fire brigade into action – they escorted the animals.

"Partly chaotic conditions" in and around Schwabach

The complete closure of the A6 was finally lifted after around two hours.

In and around Schwabach, the closure caused "sometimes chaotic conditions" because the detour routes were quickly overloaded.
