On Monday, many streets in downtown Munich will be closed for the marathon as part of the European Championships.

Schedule and locations of the road closures in the overview.

Munich - The European Championships will take place in Munich from August 11th to 21st, 2022 - to the delight of thousands of visitors.

As part of the event, 177 European champions will be determined.

On the one hand, this is nice for local residents, because they are right in the middle of the action.

But the biggest sporting event since the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972 could also be a test of patience for some locals, because the roads are partially closed.

This is also the case on Monday (August 15), when the marathon route runs directly through downtown Munich.

European Championships: total closure in parts of downtown Munich on Monday

Around 55,000 people attended the opening ceremony of the European Championships alone.

This exceeded even the expectations of the organizer and is a great success for the city.

But with a sporting event of this magnitude, traffic disruptions cannot be avoided.

The organizers point out that you should use the underground and suburban trains, as buses and trams can cause problems.

Parking spaces are scarce anyway.

If you are driving in Munich, you should be careful.

Many roads are closed and illegal parkers will be towed away at the owner's expense.

The police advise residents who want to use their car on the day of the event to park it in an area outside the event area 24 hours in advance.

"We already had to tow 91 vehicles," said the head of operations for the Munich police on Thursday.

On Monday, the marathon course of the European Championships will run right through the center of Munich - more than 20 streets in different parts of the city will then be closed.
