The Russian Defense Ministry has warned of British plans to fly an RC-135 reconnaissance plane in a path that crosses Russia's borders, describing the matter as a deliberate provocation.
And the Russia Today website quoted the ministry as saying in a statement: This act amounts to a deliberate provocation, pointing to the assignment of the Russian Air Force to prevent violations of the airspace of the Russian Federation.
The Russian defense warned that all possible consequences will be the responsibility of the British side.
The head of the International Affairs Committee of the Russian State Duma, Leonid Slutsky, warned today that the inviolability of the Russian borders is a fundamental principle that no one can test, and that the response to any violation of this principle will be absolutely harsh.
Yesterday, the Russian Ministry of Defense revealed that a British reconnaissance plane had violated Russia's air borders after the air defense forces on duty over the Barents Sea discovered an unknown air target heading towards the country's borders.
