Latakia-SANA

The Passenger Transport and Traffic Committee in Lattakia Governorate has set the executive mechanism for implementing the GPS tracking system for public transportation, with the start of its implementation on the Lattakia Jableh and Lattakia Qardaha lines, as they contain the largest number of “seraphs” and their leakage causes bottlenecks and congestion in the transport movement.

A member of the Executive Office of the Transport Sector, Malik al-Khair, indicated in a statement to SANA reporter that the experiment will be implemented soon after the selection of the relevant work teams, pointing out that after implementing the experiment on the Lattakia, Jableh and Qardaha lines, follow-up will be carried out to include all transport lines in the governorate, internal transport buses, and buses between the governorates.

Al-Khair pointed out that the committee suspended the companies’ contracts with “seraphs” after the 15th of next September, and limited them with the approval of the committee later, so that the “seraphs” for contracting would be chosen so that public transport lines would not be affected by them, especially the weak ones, while obligating them to secure a specific number of transfers.

In turn, the director of the fuel company branch, Sinan, explained that the tracking devices are ready and will be supplied to the governorate based on the number of vehicles in which the device is to be installed, pointing out that the price of the device is 350 thousand Syrian pounds paid by the owner of the service with a monthly fee of 2500 Syrian pounds.

The Traffic Committee also approved limiting the filling of fuel to public vehicles whose plates are issued by the Lattakia Governorate to control the fuel filling mechanism for public vehicles and their commitment to their lines, while tightening control over the filling of the mechanism itself and its card.

The Director of the Internal Transport Company, Eng. Tariq Issa, pointed out that the committee agreed to amend the route of the Serafis Northern Ring itinerary to pass on the highway, pass on the Dumsarkho Highway and return to the Al-Thawra Highway, indicating that this contributes to serving the people and population centers in Damsarkho and Gemmayzeh.

Issa explained that this procedure came based on the demands of the people in the population centers in the area, which are not served by public transport lines, pointing out that the application of the amendment to the route has become a necessity with the operation of the new bus line from the garage to the Al-Azhari roundabout.

Issa pointed out that it was directed to support the transport lines in the countryside of the governorate through the city lines, which have a large number of seraphs, stressing the readiness of the transport company to cover any shortage within the city.
