Israel has offered Russia in recent days to try and reach an agreement regarding the activities of the Jewish Agency in the country outside the walls of the court and in this way bring an end to the crisis, two senior Israeli officials briefed on the details told Walla.

The conversation that took place last week between President Yitzhak Herzog and Russian President Vladimir Putin was intended to finally verify that there are no political reasons behind the procedure initiated by the Russian Ministry of Justice against the Jewish Agency.
The two senior Israeli officials stated that the conversation was warm and long, and made it clear that Putin or other officials in the Kremlin were not behind the move and that it was not a Russian sanction against Israel on the background of the policy towards the war in Ukraine or any other political issue.
According to a senior Israeli official, during the conversation Putin demonstrated a willingness to resolve the issue through the legal channel and even clarified that even if Russia is not satisfied with its citizens immigrating, it has no intention of preventing the immigration of Jews to Israel.
A day after the conversation between Herzog and Putin and in light of the positive message from the Russian president, the National Security Adviser in the Prime Minister's Office, Eyal Hulta, called his counterparts in the Kremlin, and suggested that the two countries try to reach a coordinated solution outside the walls of the court.
The two senior Israeli officials noted that Hulta suggested that the court hearing scheduled for August 19 be postponed subject to the start of talks between the agency and the Russian Ministry of Justice on regulating the organization's activities in Russia, in a manner that would be consistent with Russian law.

What next
Senior Israeli officials noted that the Russian lawyers representing the Jewish Agency and the Israeli legal delegation that visited Moscow about two weeks ago made similar proposals in the past, but the Russian Ministry of Justice rejected them.
At this stage, the upcoming hearing in the Moscow court has not been postponed and is expected to take place this Friday.
Senior Israeli officials said that the postponement of the hearing or the judge's decision to send the parties to find a compromise would signify that the affair is on the way to a solution.
