The specialized journalist Mayte Carrasco and the Amnesty International spokesperson Olatz Cacho review the restrictions imposed by the Taliban on the female population

A year after the takeover of Kabul (Afghanistan) by the Taliban, the lives of women have changed radically.

In her first statements as the regime's spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahid tried to reassure both Afghan women and the international community that her rights would be respected.

But as the months have progressed, their lives have been tightened by restrictions.

The video that accompanies this news shows what the day-to-day life of a woman in Afghanistan is like today.

Mayte Carrasco, a journalist specialized in international conflicts, and Olatz Cacho, spokesperson for Amnesty International Spain, review the most restrictive limitations that this part of the population has to face.

Between them:

mahram

(the husband or a male relative).

These restrictions have a direct effect on them, but also on their families.

Many women have lost their jobs and are now fully dependent on the income of their husband or those around them.

In the video, the two specialists talk about what decisions some of them have been forced to make to try to survive and be able to feed their children.

In addition, the following questions are answered:

  • What restrictions do women face in Afghanistan?

  • How have their lives changed since the Taliban took over?

  • Why are girls allowed to go to university but access to secondary education has been banned for girls over the age of 12?

  • The girls who attend class, do they suffer discrimination?

  • Are all women prohibited from working, or are there exceptions?

  • What is the situation of widowed women or those without male relatives?

  • How do movement restrictions affect them?

  • What happens if they do not respect these restrictions?
