After the drought, we are finally expecting rain this week.

However, the ground is too dry to absorb the water masses.

There is a risk of flooding.

Munich/Wiesbaden - The summer has been pretty hot and dry so far.

Nature is particularly affected by the heat.

Temperatures of over 30 degrees are expected again this week.

There are still forest fires, such as in Lower Saxony.

Heavy precipitation is expected from Thursday (18 August).

It can come to enormous amounts of rain regionally.

Weather expert Dominik Jung warns of flooding.

The soil is too dry and therefore cannot absorb large amounts of water.

The rain will move across Germany until Saturday (20 August).

Weather in Germany: After the heat, floods of rain can follow

It has been very warm in the last few days and will continue to be so for the next few days.

Tuesday (16 August) will remain hot and sunny.

The maximum temperature is 34 degrees.

On the Upper Rhine, temperatures even reach 35 degrees.

The north and east of the country are particularly affected by the heat.

Up to 37 degrees are possible.

Wednesday (17 August) will continue to be hot and muggy.

The first showers and thunderstorms then move in over the Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate.

The rain will remain in the southwest for the time being on Thursday and then move on to the south and east.

The temperatures are between 24 and 34 degrees.

In the next few days, thunderstorms and heavy showers could cause flooding - like on Monday evening (August 15) in Berlin.

Friday (19 August) will be rainy.

The showers and thunderstorms will initially remain in the west and south and then finally move to the east.

On Saturday it will rain particularly heavily in Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony and Berlin.

In the rest of the country it is getting drier again.

The rain is cooling down the temperatures, so that 20 to 26 degrees can be expected over the weekend.

On Sunday (21 August) almost everything will be over and from Monday (22 August) the temperatures will rise again.

The maximum is 28 degrees.

After the rainy days on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, a new high brings the sun back again.

Then it will probably continue hot and dry again.

Weather in Germany - warning of flash floods after heat

The focus of the rainfall will be in the east.

Up to 100 liters of rain can fall in Saxony and the neighboring federal states.

For the time being, the north will be spared from strong amounts of water.

Nature looks forward to precipitation, but when it rains heavily, the ground cannot absorb all the water.

The long drought has severely dried out the soil.

The rain then flows directly into the streams and rivers.

Meteorologist Jung warns of flash floods and regional flooding.

After the rain it should be hot and dry.

“The heat and drought summer knows no end.

He's just taking a little mini break this week, then going on and maybe well into September.

After all, the river levels will rise a little here and there, but then fall again quickly,” explained Jung.

"The weather situation seems to be repeating itself from next week: heat and drought will return quickly," the weather expert continues.
