In the shadow of the threats to suspend school on September 1st, among the teaching staff opinions are still divided regarding the Ministry of Finance's proposal to the teachers union.

Tal Luria, a middle school and high school teacher in Efrat, is the chairman of the "Teachers Leading Change" organization. He is one of the most prominent voices among the teachers who consistently express a view similar to that of the Ministry of Finance, to the dismay of the Teachers' Union. "The proposal expresses quite closely what that I have been writing on my blog for months, and for years I say myself.

Personal contracts, differential supplement, half a year ago it would have seemed strange.

They told us 'what do you want?'

Now you see that the Ministry of Finance and even the Ministry of Education are aligning themselves with these things," he said.

"For the first time in many, many years, the employment of teachers will not be completely rigid - right now it doesn't matter if the teacher is good or bad, he gets the same, and according to the proposal this will change at some level. The second thing is the use of the money that the Ministry of Finance takes from the public," Lurie continued.

"Instead of simply pouring money on everyone and raising equally, there will be an effective investment - he will put the money where the greatest distress is. Which teachers leave the most? Teachers in the first years. For these two reasons the proposal is welcome and a step in the right direction. I would go a step further and make sure that the individual contracts They will be implemented and not left on paper. This is the future. I would also make the remuneration of the position equal and not change according to seniority."

Gilad Bakor, a physical education teacher at an elementary school in the Sharon area, with 15 years of experience in the system, expressed opposition to the proposed plan.

"They raised it to 400, what a beauty. I am considered a veteran teacher. We worked for low amounts in our first years. Over time, the salary rose a little but remained low. There has not been a proper salary agreement since 2007, and even then they improved the salary in exchange for a significant increase in hours." Bakur explained.

Bachur also said that "We have waited a long time for a new salary agreement that would be in line with the status we want to achieve in society. The proposal is a slap in the face. In the Ministry of Finance there are people who do not come from the field and separate the young from the veterans. They create incorrect numbers from a practical point of view, claiming that the veteran teachers earn a lot more than the young ones and that the gap Unbearable. I receive less than NIS 2,000 more than a teacher at the beginning of his career."

"The ones who hold the system are the old teachers and the middle generation. We educate the new teachers, hold the classes, we've worked hard all these years. It's time to see the results. It's simply ridiculous. There are also things that are not in the agreement, such as increasing the classes and canceling the hours of stay, that they are of no importance," added Bachur.

"The salary should be raised by at least 25%, I understand that it won't happen, but it is what is deserved. The status of the teacher here is embarrassing, and it hurts that we are fighting with you for 100-200 shekels. There is almost no teacher who can afford not to work an extra job in the current situation. I Hope Shefa Ben David doesn't fold a minute before the end. This is the future of our children."

Merav Rahat, an educator for the fourth year at an elementary school in Atlit, said that in her opinion the proposal is "fair and honorable".

According to her, "I see no reason to oppose it. It corrects the too large gap that exists between beginning and veteran teachers. Yes, there will be increases for all teachers, but more for those who earn little. I am in favor of considering the quality of the teacher. I currently earn NIS 8,000 gross and I will receive a raise, It's always gratifying. Along with very fast rewards, the salary can reach ten thousand shekels or more. I personally would be satisfied with that. The Histadrut can propose more spot fixes, but the opposition and the desire to strike on September 1 is unnecessary and knocks us all out. There is no reason for it to get there."

Shiral Levi Atar, a science teacher at an elementary school in Eilat criticized the Ministry of Finance's proposal.

According to her, the latest proposal does not provide a proper response to the situation in the education system.

"There is no doubt that the salary of the new teachers is really humiliating, but there is an attempt to develop public awareness that the salary of veteran teachers is approaching the average in the economy, which is absolutely not true. I have been a teacher for 20 years, with a master's degree, and I am far from that," she explained.

"This proposal is an attempt to provide a one-point solution to a very serious situation in the system. It will only cause a greater erosion of the salary of the veteran teachers."

Levi Atar, one of the leaders of the "September 1" movement to promote education in Israel, also attacked the words of Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman.

Building an axiom that it was not possible to sign a salary agreement in a transitional government, but signed with other employees.

I don't remember the nurses or drivers being called derogatory names like 'thugs' when they sat down and I don't understand why this discourse is happening towards us.

I, as a teacher who brings with me experience and expertise, do not think that the salary adequately expresses what I bring with me."

"However, I think that the salary issue is only a minor element within the state of the education system. I do not take it lightly, but it will not solve the problems in the system," continued the teacher.

"The proposal does not address overcrowding, the lack of psychologists and counselors, and other problems. We work under conditions that do not allow us to give correct and appropriate answers to the students. Regarding the holidays, there is a lack of knowledge and understanding of the meaning of work as an educator. We pay the salary for the long vacation to ourselves - the calculation is According to ten months. The vacations are meant to give relaxation from this very demanding job. I didn't go into the profession to allow parents to put their child somewhere."
