"We had to help them": solidarity is organized for the family who saw their house destroyed by lightning in the Oise

Victims of the storms that hit the Oise on Tuesday evening, a young couple and their baby, residents of Rémécourt, lost everything in the fire


When the family evening turns to disaster... Tuesday evening, a young couple living in Rémécourt (Oise), a village of 80 inhabitants located 20 km northeast of Creil, saw their house go up in smoke in a few minutes.

The storm, which arrived at the end of the day in the department from the Paris region, fell around 8 p.m. on the pavilion of Julien, 30, and Adeline, 26, where they had been living since 2019. fire spread from the attic to the first floor and then the roof collapsed.

The fire caused no injuries, but the family lost everything.

“They had just redone their house”

"I remember the flash and the noise, we understood that the lightning had fallen nearby," says Thomas, the owner's brother, who was also present the night before inside the pavilion.

We walked around the garden, there was nothing special.

It was when we got back that we saw smoke coming from the roof.

“We opened the attic, it must have caused a draft, says Thomas.

That's where the fire started.

The young couple and their 16-month-old son left the home before the roof ignited.

No time to pack, the three adults pick up the 16-month-old baby who was sleeping upstairs.

"We just had time to get the little one out and take some important papers, that's all," says the owner's brother.

Once outside, they warn their neighbors who, in turn, hurry to move their vehicles parked very close to the burning house, awaiting the arrival of the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service which will operate until past midnight on the premises.

“I hadn't seen anything, yet I was in the bedroom, the room closest to their house, about ten meters away, testifies Olivier, a neighbor, this Wednesday.

I quickly snuck out to get my car out of the yard.

He has lived in Rémécourt for five years.

"Another neighbor has lived here longer, he's never seen this," he told me.

“It was not a ruin but almost when they bought, recalls Thomas, the brother of the victim.

For three years, my brother — a plumber and heating engineer by profession — redid everything until last week.

Same momentum of solidarity on the side of the bikers of the Laffing Dogs association.

“We do a lot in the social, motorcycle marauding, rides for sick children, we are very focused on others, says Benoit Pontanus, the president.

When we learned of the drama, we immediately wanted to do something, especially since one of our members knows them well.

Big-hearted bikers therefore organized another collection point at Bar'Oudeur in Saint-Maximin this Wednesday evening.

While a kitty has been opened online to support the Rémécourt family, they will certainly have to wait many months before seeing their house again.

“There is at least one year with the insurance, two with the reconstruction”, estimates Christophe Dietrich.

"I'm going to lend them my apartment," adds Thomas, Julien's brother.

It is important that they have a place of their own with the little one.

I will surely go back to my parents while waiting for another solution.

On the evening of August 16, the Oise firefighters intervened fifteen times in the department on various damage caused by bad weather.

Another house was also the victim of lightning in Bornel, near Chambly, without major damage this time.
