Palestinian Authority Chairman Abu Mazen clarified today (Wednesday) that "the Holocaust is the most heinous crime in history". This after he said that Israel had committed "50 holocausts" against the Palestinians, in a statement that caused a great uproar in Germany and Israel. According to a statement from Abu Mazen's office, he "He did not intend to deny the uniqueness of the Holocaust" and that he strongly condemns it.



During a press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Schulz, Abu Mazen was asked yesterday if he wished to apologize for the massacre of athletes at the Munich Olympics in 1972 carried out by Palestinian terrorists. In response, he said The chairman of the Palestinian Authority said that Israel had committed 50 massacres against Palestinians, and then added that Israel had committed "50 holocausts" against the Palestinians.

This morning, Schultz attacked Abu Mazen's words harshly, saying that he was "disgusted by his outrageous comments".

The political system reacted with rage to Abu Mazen's words.

Prime Minister Yair Lapid tweeted that Abu Mazen's statement "is not only a moral disgrace but also a terrible distortion. Six million Jews perished in the Holocaust, one and a half million Jewish children perished. History will not forgive him."



Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked stung Defense Minister Benny Gantz, "Abu Mazen fought IDF soldiers in The Hague, and denies the Holocaust in Germany."

The Biden administration also strongly condemned the words of the chairman of the Palestinian Authority. Also, the American envoy for the fight against anti-Semitism, Deborah Lipstadt, said that Abu Mazen's comparison of Israel's actions to the Holocaust is unacceptable. "The distortion of the Holocaust fuels anti-Semitism and this may have dangerous consequences," she saying.
