Engineer Ahmed Hamidi, Head of the Field Crops Department in the Plant Production Directorate at the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, stated that the estimates of the production of groundnuts for the current agricultural season amount to about 8000 tons, distributed mainly in the governorates of Tartous, Homs, Hama and the Al-Ghab region.
Hamidi said in a statement to SANA reporter: Peanuts are a major summer crop that achieves rewarding returns for farmers. It is also included in some food industries. It is consumed fresh and dry, in addition to its use as green fodder for livestock herds, pointing out that the cultivated area is 3802 hectares for the main and intensified crops, out of the planned cultivation of 3653 hectares, with an implementation rate of 104 percent, mostly in the main loop, with an area of 3540 hectares.
A number of farmers said that the peanut crop has a good economic yield, in addition to the benefits of its cultivation for the agricultural cycle, as it increases soil fertility and supplies it with nitrogen. Its products are in the main production areas.
