Anne Heche's cause of death was ruled an accident released Wednesday by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Department.

Anne Heche's cause of death has been ruled an accident, citing inhalation and thermal injuries as the cause, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Department released Wednesday.

Other "significant conditions" in his death included a "sternum fracture due to blunt trauma," according to the report posted online.

The actress's body has since been released from the coroner's office, the report says.

CNN is reaching out to Heche's representatives for comment.

Heche, a fascinating actress whose versatility fueled an admirable career in television and film that spanned four decades, has died at the age of 53.

"Anne Heche was peacefully taken off life support," a representative for the actress's family told CNN on Sunday night, later confirming her death.

Heche's car crashed into a Los Angeles home and burst into flames on August 5.

After the accident, Heche experienced "severe anoxic brain injury," which deprived his brain of oxygen, among other critical injuries following the accident, his family and friends said in a statement to CNN.
