Aston Martin DBR22, Le Mans nostalgia

2022-08-17T15:41:16.216Z

NEW - Evoking the famous fifties racing barquettes produced by the English brand, the DBR22 concept heralds a new limited series with a V12 engine.

While it is still chasing after its first success in Formula 1, the Aston Martin firm is waking up the best pages of its sports awards for its latest creation from its Q customization department. Unveiled on the sidelines of the traditional Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance which held this year on the weekend of August 20, this new racing car revives the spirit of the English brand's racing boats which distinguished themselves during the 1950s in the races of the World Brands Championship.

Started with the DB3S in 1953, the sporting program of David Brown's firm in endurance ended in apotheosis with the victory of the DBR1 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1959 and the title of constructors' world champion at the end of the same year.

Less than a year from the centenary of the Le Mans event, Aston Martin is therefore rekindling the flame of its glorious past with the DBR22 tray.

If this is not its first roadster, the brand having produced a series of 88 Speedster V12 in 2020 and developed the CC100 concept for its centenary in 2013, the DBR22 is a faithful evocation of the DB3S and DBR1 which shone in the years 1950. It recalls its illustrious ancestors both in terms of the curves of the silhouette and the double boss behind the bucket seats, the side vents, the treatment of the grille and the choice of green colour.

Like the Ferrari Monza and the McLaren Elva, the Aston Martin DBR22 dispenses with a windscreen and a roof.

The occupants of this English Thoroughbred are protected from the eddies of air by a thin glass blade designed in the manner of a windscreen.

Around a carbon fiber body, the DBR22 receives the 5.2-liter V12 biturbo from the English house.

It has a power of 715 horsepower and a torque of 753 Nm. This V12 is associated with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

This new thoroughbred claims a speed of 319 km/h and a 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds.

It now remains for Aston Martin to raise two unknowns: the number of copies that the Q department intends to produce and the price.
