Today (Wednesday) a military official referred for the first time to the IDF's use of unmanned aerial vehicles for targeted attacks and assassinations for more than 20 years. Until recently, the use of UAVs was prohibited from publication, and about a month ago the military censorship allowed reporting on the military use of the aircraft.

IDF data shows that the IDF's remote manned aircraft array performed more than 2,000 flight hours in more than 100 sorties during Operation "Dawn".

During the flights, the UAVs carried out observations, gathered intelligence, and attacked dozens of targets, including Islamic Jihad operatives in vehicles with 90% accurate hits.

Chief Artillery Officer, Brigadier General Neri Horowitz, said today that "in the days leading up to the 'Dawn' operation, the 'Zik' unit operated in the Gaza Strip and was prepared for several operational scenarios.

When the decision was made to launch a proactive operation, the unit carried out a wide variety of collection and attack missions - starting with thwarting senior officials, destroying rocket launchers and mortar bombs, locating and thwarting terrorist squads that were being prepared for launch or those that had already fired into the Gaza Strip and the rear of the State of Israel.

" "The Zik unit specializes in closing circles , exposing the enemy and attacks as part of the defense and attack efforts," the artillery officer continued. "The unit has been a significant force in many operations over the years and has an extensive combat heritage, has existed for over two decades and since its inception has been a model for a unique multi-armed partnership in the IDF."

The commander of the land helicopter unit in the Artillery Corps (5252), Lt. Col. M. said that "the specialty of the helicopter unit is in assistance and attack missions.

As a ground unit, which in the current operation led the coordination and tasks with the Gaza Division and the Southern Command, we are working 24/7 to ensure the safety of the residents of the perimeter and the State of Israel."

Furthermore, a senior officer in the IDF stated today that the army's data shows that 80% of the operational activity of The Air Force is carried out by drones. The IDF refused to deny or confirm whether attempts were made during the operation to disrupt the activity of the aircraft in the frequency range or with anti-aircraft missiles.
