Fraud groups in Southeast Asia are increasingly rampant, enticing people from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and other places with high salaries to work in Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar and other Southeast Asian countries. There are even rumors that some of the deceived people have been deceived and died in foreign countries.

The Security Bureau said on the evening of Wednesday (17th) that it attaches great importance to the relevant incident. The Immigration Department and the police have received 17 and 12 cases respectively.

The bureau appeals to overseas Hong Kong residents who need assistance to call the 24-hour hotline (852) 1868, or use the Immigration APP to call or fill in the form for assistance.

The Security Bureau stated that it attaches great importance to the recent suspicion of Hong Kong people who have been lured into Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar and other Southeast Asian countries and detained to engage in illegal work.

Since January this year, the Immigration Department and the Police have received 17 and 12 requests for assistance respectively.

The Security Bureau pointed out that after receiving the relevant assistance, the "Assistance to Hong Kong Residents Unit" of the Immigration Department immediately provided assistance to the local police according to the wishes of the person seeking assistance. Among them, 12 Hong Kong residents have left the area safely.

The team will also actively follow up on cases that have not left the local area for assistance, and will continue to maintain close contact and follow up cases with the family members of the parties, the Hong Kong Police Force, the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong, and the Chinese embassy/consulate general in the local area.

The Security Bureau continued that when the police received relevant reports, they would maintain close contact with overseas law enforcement agencies, and contact overseas law enforcement agencies through the Interpol platform to exchange intelligence and assist in investigations.

The Security Bureau also urges not to easily believe online job advertisements or messages, and to be vigilant about ways to "make quick money" and jobs that are highly remunerated regardless of education or work experience.

If Hong Kong people need assistance overseas, they can call the 24-hour helpline of the "Assistance to Hong Kong Residents Unit" of the Immigration Department at (852) 1868. They can also use the "Immigration Department Mobile Application" to use the Internet data to call the 1868 hotline or Get help through the online help form.
