"My two children spur me on," says Christina Keiler.

She encountered a number of hurdles on her way to becoming an IHK specialist.

Despite this, she graduated with honors.

Bad Tölz – Christina Keiler from Bad Tölz was recently awarded the master prize of the Bavarian state government.

The mother of two has successfully passed the IHK specialist exam for health and social work.

Getting there wasn't always easy for the 27-year-old.

Nevertheless, she wants to motivate other people with similar dreams not to give up.

Mother of two wants to motivate others with her story

In May 2020, Christina Keiler began training to become a specialist in health and social work at the IHK Munich.

Her first son was born in September 2019.

Before her parental leave, Keiler worked as a “Medical Assistant” at Lanserhof am Tegernsee.

"I work directly with the patient," she says.

"It's often very close, it's difficult to switch off." With her further training as a business administrator, the 27-year-old "would like to continue working there, but more on the management level," she says.

The delivery date fell right into the examination period

Keiler had to travel to Weilheim several times a week to attend classes for the business administrator.

The final exam finally took place on October 25, 2021.

"But I couldn't take part because I had my second due date on October 21," says the mother of two.

Because Keiler would have had to wait a year to be able to take her exam again at the Munich Chamber of Industry and Commerce, she campaigned to be allowed to take the exam at another location.

"After a lot of back and forth, it finally worked out and I had a new exam date for March at the IHK in Passau." However, everything turned out differently.

During pregnancy she fell and was unable to attend school.

Then she also got Corona in the delivery room.

The days and nights before the exams were not easy

In the weeks after the second birth, learning was out of the question.

"I was always ill," says the young woman.

Nevertheless, in March, Keiler set off for the written exam in Passau together with her husband and their two sons (2 years and 9 months).

"Nights in a hotel with a baby weren't easy," she says.

In June, when she went to Lower Bavaria with her husband and children for the oral exam, the situation was no better.

"I was very excited," says the 27-year-old.

Despite this, she passed the oral exam with a first.

"I didn't think it would work with two children," says the 27-year-old today.

“My kids are the reason I keep going”

Nevertheless, her two sons are one of the reasons why Keiler never gave up, even if it wasn't easy.

"I've been told I've thrown my life away for becoming a mother at such a young age.

But my two children encourage me.

They are the reason for me to continue,” says Keiler, who was awarded the master prize of the Bavarian state government at the award ceremony.

The 20 best percent of an examination date receive this prize.

Anything is possible with the support of family

In addition to her husband, Keiler was also motivated by her parents.

"They have always driven me to do something with my life," says the 27-year-old.

"It's worth a lot to have a family that stands behind you." Keiler advises anyone who wants to become parents at a young age not to make this decision dependent on professional life.

"For me, it was the motivation to be able to show my children later what you have achieved," she says.

"You can do anything with the support of your partner and family."
