Even if the number of visitors decreased, organizer Manfred Wodarczyk draws a consistently positive conclusion for the historic market 2022 in Schongau.

Schongau – Eleven days of “Schongau summer” on the folk festival site are already over.

Time for organizer Manfred Wodarczyk to take stock.

And it turns out to be “excellent”, as he explains when asked by the local newspaper.

Many visitors came back.

Above all, people from the area and holidaymakers examined the goods at the numerous stands, feasted and were amazed at the performances of the showmen.

It's a pity that fewer people from Schongau strolled through the medieval market than in previous years, according to Wodarczyk.

A total of around 30 percent fewer visitors than at the best times were recorded, Wodarczyk does not want to give exact figures yet.

This year, entry was charged for the market for the first time – five euros per day or 15 euros for all days.

Some of them also expressed their displeasure to Wodarczyk.

"But I won't get involved with that," he says calmly.

Schongau Summer: Expand the supporting programme

In any case, there were no complaints on site.

Neither by fierantes and showmen, nor by visitors.

On the contrary, according to Wodarczyk.

He even received a lot of positive feedback that the admission prices were "absolutely fine" for the program that was offered.

That could probably be a little more extensive in the future, since this year "one or the other euro more was taken".

Money that could be invested in other music groups, for example.

Unfortunately, the Corona period would have thinned out the offer, says Wodarczyk.

It's not that easy to find good bands for the market.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Schongau newsletter.)

Schongau summer: Stand operators want to come back

Wodarczyk fears that the fact that the market can be visited free of charge at midday during the week has probably not caught on with the people.

At least the offer was hardly accepted.

The market is traditionally less frequented on hot afternoons, so people are more drawn to the lake.

In the evening, however, all market days were again "very well attended".

"It was great."

Above all, the cleanliness and the environment - "the people who were there" - as well as the uncomplicated process were praised according to the organizer.

And: "All stand operators want to come back," says Wodarczyk happily.

Some have already asked about registration options for the 2023 Historical Market.

This is also why Wodarczyk's conclusion is positive.

In the next three weeks, everything for the association "Schongauer Sommer" will revolve around accounts.

In addition, this year's market should be discussed before the planning for the next historical market starts.

Wodarczyk is in contact with the theater group "Treibhaus".

As reported, a cooperation with a festival is planned for the coming year.

The theater association wants to bring the play "1493", written by the chairman Maximilian Geiger himself, to the stage.
