Rising electricity prices are also causing problems for e-car owners.

Nevertheless, e-cars are still ahead of combustion engines when it comes to refueling.

Munich – The almost endlessly rising fuel prices now seem to be over.

The drop in crude oil prices is also pushing down the prices for petrol and diesel, as an analysis by the ADAC shows.

A liter of Super E10 cost 1.707 euros on average nationwide last week.

A liter of diesel was 1,890 euros.

Compared to the record prices of over two euros in May, that seems almost cheap.

But what is the cheapest way to travel: with electricity or with petrol and diesel?

High electricity prices: "Fuel costs for electric cars are overestimated"

Because electric car drivers are now struggling with rising electricity prices.

They are just as little spared from the energy crisis as drivers of combustion engines.

But as the comparison portal Check24 has now calculated, the e-cars are still well ahead in terms of price per kilometer.

Despite the currently extremely high electricity prices, the charging costs for an electric car with the same annual mileage are around 44 percent lower than the fuel costs for a petrol car.

"The fuel costs for an electric car are often overestimated," says Steffen Suttner, Energy Manager at Check24.

"Even despite high electricity prices, e-cars are still much cheaper to maintain than combustion engines," explains Suttner.

This is also shown by the calculation by Check24.

The diagram shows that an e-car is just under seven euros cheaper per 100 kilometers than a petrol vehicle and almost six euros cheaper than a diesel vehicle.

Comparison of annual consumption: e-cars refuel 742 euros cheaper

When calculating the annual costs, it also becomes clear that, despite the high electricity costs, an e-car is still cheaper.

According to the Check24 calculation, a family with an average mileage (10,928 km per year) with an electric car pays 2,608 euros for electricity at a price of 39 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh).

With a power consumption of 21.6 kWh per 100 kilometers, the electric car accounts for 932 euros of the total consumption.

Instead of 1,676 euros, the family then has to pay 2,608 euros for electricity if the e-car is always charged at home and not at a public charging station.

For comparison: With the same mileage, the cost of petrol is around 1,674 euros per year.

In a direct comparison, families with an e-car pay a good 742 euros less for refueling than families with a petrol engine.
