The largest airline in the world, American Airlines, which also operates flights to Israel, among others, purchased 20 Overture aircraft from the "Boom Supersonic" company yesterday with an option to purchase 20 additional aircraft.
The new planes are supposed to fly at twice the speed of today, thus actually cutting the duration of the flight around the world in half.
A flight from Tel Aviv to New York today takes about 10.5 hours.
In the new plane, the flight between the destinations is expected to last only about 5.5 hours.
A flight to London will take only about 3 hours, and so will all the flights that will be operated using the new planes.
Boom Supersonic's planes are not expected to be in commercial use until 2029, but are expected to be ready as early as 2025, when they will begin a series of tests until their commercial use begins.
According to the report, the planes are expected to hold up to 80 passengers, which means that those passengers will have to pay quite a bit for the pleasure of flying with shortened flight times.
It is important to emphasize that this is one of the largest aviation projects in the world, and American Airlines' decision to purchase 20 planes is a kind of gamble, since along with the great enthusiasm surrounding the project that may change the world of aviation, there may also be unexpected disruptions that can change the plans of the airline and the aircraft manufacturer.
