Horse blessing in Geierlambach: For a year full of health and joy

All sizes, colors and breeds stood peacefully next to each other on Monday morning to wait for the traditional blessing at the Kronawitter horse farm.

For more than 20 years, the blessing of horses at the Kronawitter riding stable has been a tradition of the Ampertal Riding and Driving Club.

After a forced break, it took place again this year.

With pleasant weather and high spirits, everyone gathered on the Assumption Day at the Kronawitter family's riding stables.

As usual, the riding and driving club Ampertal had organized the traditional day – for the 21st time.

"We are curious to see how many horses and carriages will be there this year after the Corona break," Romina Kronawitter was curious about the number of participants before the start of the fair.

Before the blessing was given, the farm's riding arena was an impressive sight: numerous horses and ponies were warming up here and doing their rounds.

The riders had dressed up their animals, and the children's pony Nandoo was even festively painted by his young riders.

Riding stable boss Alfred Kronawitter also took part in the preparations for the blessing with his western mare.

Before everyone gathered at the Marienkapelle, all participating horses and carriages took a short tour of the beautiful grounds around the Kronawitter-Hof.

Riders and carriages from more distant places also took part in the festive day, such as the Haflingerhof Günthner from Eichstätt.

"We actually always come here when there's something to celebrate in Geierlambach," reported the group in a good mood.

At the chapel, the horses – more than 50 had arrived in the meantime – showed their patience: they lined up obediently to wait for the blessing they received from Pastor Hermann Schlicker.

"When I first heard about the blessing of horses on the Assumption of Mary, I didn't quite understand the connection," the pastor admitted.

On this Church Day, one actually celebrates “the physical”.

Only when he saw the horses did Schlicker find this day absolutely fitting for the blessing: "Your horses are all magnificent specimens, the bodies radiate pure aesthetics."

During the blessing, the horses showed strong nerves and did not shy away from the shower of holy water.

"Your horses also feel fear, sadness and pain and need affection and love for life," the priest continued to address the riders.

"I wish you a year full of health and joy."

After the official part of the day was over, everyone gathered in the riding arena.

There, beer benches and lots of cold drinks awaited the guests, a bouncy castle and pony rides for the youngest.

The day ended with coffee and cake so that we could finally say: It was another great success, as Romina Kronawitter emphasized.

The Riding and Driving Club Ampertal is already looking forward to continuing the tradition next year.

Then for the 22nd time.
