Prime Minister Yair Lapid held a discussion today (Wednesday) on the subject of negotiations with the Teachers' Union, in which he spoke with the Ministers of Finance and Education, and after that he spoke with the Secretary General of the Teachers' Union Yaffe Ben David. This is against the background of the crisis in the talks between the Ministry of Finance and the Teachers' Union, which threaten to open the school year as planned. "Systems are best measured in a situation of chaos - and now we have the opportunity to improve and optimize the system," he said. This is the first time in years that a discussion leading up to the opening of the school year has been held in the presence of the Prime Minister.

After the meeting, Lapid wrote on Twitter: "I talked during Today with the Minister of Education, who updated me on the preparations for the start of the school year and the progress of negotiations with the Teachers' Union. Yesterday I met with the Minister of Finance on the same issue. The ministers of the government and I are determined to reach a solution in the coming days."

First, Lapid held a discussion with Minister of Finance Avigdor Lieberman and Minister of Education Yifat Shasha Biton, regarding progress in the negotiations with the Teachers' Union. The meeting was attended by the Director General of the Prime Minister's Office Naama Shultz, the Director General of the Ministry of Education Dalit Stauber and the Commissioner for Salaries at the Treasury Kobi Bar Natan .

After that, an extended discussion was held on the readiness of the education system for the opening of the 2018 school year, with the Minister of Education Yifat Shasha Biton, and the top of the Ministry of Education. In the discussion, officials from the Ministry of Education pointed out to the Prime Minister that the discussion is the first of its kind to be held with the involvement of a Prime Minister.
