Prime Minister Yair Lapid spoke this evening (Wednesday) with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The two agreed on the resumption of Israeli flights to Turkey starting in September.

In addition, they congratulated each other on the decision to return to full diplomatic representation and to return the ambassadors and consuls general to the countries.



"The leaders agreed that the latest development is an important and additional step in strengthening relations that will also lead to many achievements, with an emphasis on the areas of the economy and tourism," the Prime Minister's office said in a statement.

"These will be reflected in the renewal of Israeli flights to Turkey and in the meeting of the economic committee involved in Israel during the month of September."

Relations between the countries have known many crises in recent years.

Earlier today, the prime minister and president of Turkey announced the normalization of relations between the countries and the return of the ambassadors.

This, after a rapprochement between Ankara and Jerusalem in recent months, which included a meeting between President Yitzhak Herzog and Erdogan in Ankara and Lapid's meetings with Turkey's Foreign Minister.



Lapid said that "the renewal of relations with Turkey is an important asset for regional stability and a very important economic line for the citizens of Israel. We will continue to act and strengthen Israel's international status in the world."

The conclusion on the renewal of relations was made in a telephone conversation held yesterday by the Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Alon Oshfiz, with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkey, Sadat Unal.



Herzog also welcomed.
