Lake Starnberg has less water than it has in three years.

This poses some challenges for local rescue organizations.

Münsing – Lake Starnberg currently has less water than it has in three years.

This poses some challenges for the rescue organizations based at the lake.

Low water level in Lake Starnberg: Difficult conditions for rescue organizations

The Wolfratshausen water rescue service operates two rescue stations on the east bank: at the Seeburg and at the Schwaiblbach.

The boats are normally lowered into the water via railway tracks.

"We are at the limit of getting the boats into the lake," reports Chairman Ingo Roeske.

But the lifeguard took precautions a few years ago.

Since the first low water, the lifeguards have had a lifting station at the end of the tracks.

By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Wolfratshausen-Geretsried newsletter.

The water rescue service in Ammerland also maintains one.

Therefore, according to Michael Döhla, the current water level is not a big problem for the local group.

"Our boats hang directly over the water, we can simply lower them and drive through our boat entrance onto the lake," says the technical director.

In the boat entrance, the water level is still high enough.

Low level in Lake Starnberg: New shallows have opened up

But according to Döhla, the low level has opened up new shoals.

It could be that a stone appears that was previously sufficiently covered by water and damages the material.

"This presents some of our boat drivers with new challenges," reports Döhla.

Even with technical assistance, the circumstances are currently somewhat different.

The way to the shore is long.

This shallow water zone is ideal for children, says Roeske.

"But we can't get any closer than 80 meters." The footbridge of the German Life Saving Society (DLRG) Wolfratshausen-Schäftlarn in St. Heinrich is no longer accessible to the lifeguards.

The rescue boat of the DLRG Geretsried is in a so-called box at the rescue station in Seeshaupt in the water.

"Due to the low water level, it is actually the case that we have to be careful when entering the box so that we don't land on land with our motorboat," reports local chairman Maiko Alpers when asked by our newspaper.

"We still have a few centimeters, but it's getting tight," says Geretsrieder.

Mooring the boat to a buoy further out in the lake is not a solution.

"You can do that as a private person, but not if you have to be ready for action." Alpers hopes for help from above - "that it will soon rain properly".
