(CNN Spanish) -- Peru's defense minister, José Gavidia, presented his resignation on Wednesday.
The official announced the decision through his Twitter account.
Gavidia assured that he is retiring from the post for "strictly personal" reasons.
"With satisfaction for having fulfilled the task entrusted to the good of the Armed Forces and the country, I inform that I have submitted my resignation from the position of Minister of Defense. Thank you, President @PedroCastilloTe
for giving me such a high honor. I will continue serving the country from the trench that touch," Gavidia wrote.
The head of the Ministry of Defense accompanied the announcement with the letter he presented to the presidency.
President Pedro Castillo has not yet communicated whether he accepts Gavidia's resignation.
