The Ministry for the Development of the Negev and the Galilee is initiating the establishment of new farmers' markets, where the prices of the produce will be determined according to the prices in the food chains • Farmers who agree to participate in the markets - will not pay the cost of the stand • Minister of Agriculture Oded Forer: "We recognized the need to establish farmers' markets with quality produce at prices equal to every pocket"

Farmers' markets have become enabling a direct connection between sellers of agricultural products and consumers.

But in a situation where the prices of fruits and vegetables are skyrocketing, the markets are even more expensive.

The Negev and Galilee Development Ministry is initiating farmers' markets in the periphery, where the prices will be set for the farmers.

In a call distributed by the ministry, the authorities in the north and south are asked to compete for ten million shekels to be allocated to ten authorities.

Each of them will initiate the establishment of a farmers' market that will operate ten times a year, where the farmers will sell their wares at a predetermined price.

In return - the farmer will not pay the cost of the stand.

The price of the agricultural produce that will be sold in the markets will be determined according to the average price that day in the food chains, with the local authority being responsible for price control.

The ministry hopes that the farmers will agree to the offer and will take the initiative to sell the agricultural produce at the farmers' markets.

The publication of the Negev and Galilee Development Authority states that in addition to agricultural produce, the authorities will produce food stalls, children's activities, shows and the phenning of selling fresh produce.

A luxury culinary trend

Minister of Agriculture Oded Porer: "In an era where farmers' markets are a prestigious culinary trend, and direct marketing from the farmer to the consumer is done online - we recognized the need to establish farmers' markets with quality produce at prices that are affordable for every pocket.

Ilan Shochat, CEO of the Ministry for the Development of the Periphery, the Negev and the Galilee: "The farmers' markets will be events celebrating the fruit of the land and getting to know the periphery, the Negev and the Galilee, and the farmer and his produce.

I invite the many residents and travelers to come to the wonderful regions of the country, get to know the farmers, and buy a variety of the country's produce at fair prices."
