Raccoon "Jasper" is just like deer "Hope" an orphan.

They get to know each other in a wild animal sanctuary and are great friends from then on.

Some friendships simply have something very special in common.

It is often shared experiences that bring us together – but sometimes there are also severe blows of fate.

They, too, often strengthen the invisible bond of friendship.

Is that also the case with raccoon "Jasper" and deer "Hope"?

Maybe yes, because both lost their mum way too early.

It's a rainy day when raccoon "Jasper" is abandoned by his mom.

At this point he is only three weeks old.

Luckily, people find the helpless baby raccoon and call Carry Long, who runs a wildlife sanctuary.

Although she specializes in rescuing orphaned deer with her non-profit organization Texas Fawn and Friends, she decides to take in the raccoon.

"We weren't sure if he was going to make it," Long tells

But Jasper made it and still visits the place where his life was saved.

Fully grown and alert, Jasper regularly visits Carry Long's deer park, which is home to around 75 orphaned deer.

So does deer "Hope", who is particularly close to Jasper's heart.

A penguin also regularly visits its former rescuer and swims 8,000 kilometers every year.

Both wild animals share the same fate, because Hope also lost her mother as a cub.

But Jasper "makes her not feel alone: ​​Jasper just loves her," Long says.
