The planned Rammstein concert on New Year's Eve on the Theresienwiese in Munich was canceled by the organizer according to information from our editorial team.

Munich – It should be a mega event.

Rammstein on the Theresienwiese with 145,000 spectators on New Year's Eve.

But the concerns of the city council and the police were great.

Apparently too big.

As our editorial team has just learned from the town hall, the organizer Klaus Leutgeb has now backed down and canceled the concert.

The background was a conversation between representatives of the district administration department, the police, the fire brigade and individual city councillors.

Economics officer Clemens Baumgärtner (CSU) had invited.

The exchange was originally intended to clarify a few open questions.

As participants report, Leutgeb is said to have perceived a very negative attitude, especially from the KVR and the police, whereupon the organizer withdrew his offer for the New Year's Eve event.

The impression was solidified that there was a ready-made opinion among the authorities.

Leutgeb himself did not want to comment on request.

New Year's Eve concert with Rammstein on the Theresienwiese - plans only known two weeks ago

Only two weeks ago, the Leutgeb agency announced its plans to bring Rammstein to Munich on New Year's Eve.

And not just anywhere, but on the Theresienwiese.

The approval of the city council was still pending, but was actually granted after a long, heated discussion.

Rammstein concerts usually fall into the "mega event" category.

Apparently that doesn't fit on the Theresienwiese in Munich.

Rammstein concert on the Theresienwiese: Great stomach ache from the start

Nevertheless, the stomach ache on the part of the authorities was great.

The new KVR boss, Hanna Sammüller-Gradl (Greens), told our editors: “We have a problem with the short-term.

It would be something completely different for the security authorities if the concert took place in the Olympic Park or on the exhibition grounds.

We already have experience with major events there.”

In addition, as is well known, the Winter Tollwood takes place at the same time on the Theresienwiese.

According to their own statements, the organizers found out about the planned concert from the newspaper and were, to put it mildly, not very enthusiastic.

They felt betrayed.

KVR spokesman was surprised by the Rammstein cancellation

KVR spokesman Tobias Kapfelsberger now says on request that he was surprised by the cancellation.

"During the conversation, we explained what we had already told the city council and what the press had already said." The concerns about noise protection, safety and transport connections were actually conveyed several times.

"At the end of the conversation, the organizer informed us that the timeline was too short to implement all of this."

That's surprising, says Green Party leader Dominik Krause.

The organizer should have known the time corridor.

"We already expressed the concerns a week ago and said that this is too short term."

CSU faction leader Manuel Pretzl finds the cancellation highly regrettable

CSU faction leader Manuel Pretzl said on Tuesday that the cancellation was highly regrettable.

"Munich missed a great opportunity, it would have been the most noticed New Year's Eve event in the whole world." But he could understand the organizer after he was "publicly mocked" by the administration.

"It was also signaled to him through the press that the event was simply not wanted.

Apparently a new style has moved in at the KVR, and I wish for an administration that makes something possible and doesn't prevent it."

Meanwhile, SPD Vice Christian Vorländer said that Leutgeb's decision deserved respect.

“We were open to the idea.

But it was always clear that the schedule was a big challenge.

The organizer has now seen that too.”
