State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said that sanctions against Russia, as it turned out, were ineffective and rebounded to hit the United States and the European Union.
"It turned out that Western sanctions against Russia did not cause the damage that Washington and Brussels expected to the Russian economy," Volodin was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti news agency. The world economy developed without and without Russia.
"Foreign economists are revising their estimates of Russia's GDP for this year... In their opinion, the decline will be about two-thirds less than previously expected," Volodin said, noting that after the first three packages of anti-Russian sanctions, experts expected a decline in Russia's GDP by more. From 12 percent, but these expectations currently stand at the level of 4.7 percent.
Volodin explained that at the same time, the situation regarding the United States and the European Union is exactly the opposite, as analysts increased their negative expectations, recording a decline in gross domestic product for two consecutive quarters of this year.
