Homs, SANA- A group of young people in Homs succeeded in establishing a recreational sports club that integrates children with disabilities with their peers.

A group of young people in Homs succeeded in establishing an inclusive sports entertainment club for children with disabilities with their healthy peers called (Stronger Together) that includes interactive activities aimed at creating a safe space for targeted children and their families.

The club, which was founded about four months ago, has attracted hundreds of children from different neighborhoods of Homs, according to Samah Salem, the founder of the project, a graduate of the Faculty of Health Sciences, specializing in physiotherapy. The SANA Youth Bulletin indicated that the club receives children from 3 to 11 years old.

She pointed out that the club includes interactive sports and artistic activities appropriate to the ages of children under the supervision of a group of university youth cadres and athletes who won the republic championship in physical strength sports, where children with autism, Down and Hyperactivity are cared for by supervisors with a specialization in psychological counseling according to the best educational methods to develop their awareness and knowledge of life. This is according to a daily schedule.

Salem indicated that the club, located between the Muhajireen and Abbasiya neighborhoods in Homs city, is a community center licensed by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor. The idea of ​​launching it was proposed by a youth team within a competition held by the United Nations Development Program, explaining that she employed the experience she gained from dealing with children through the help of her mother. The teacher and the owner of a kindergarten, who specializes in physical therapy to treat some sick children, as well as a distinguished youth educational and sports staff.

The club's project, according to the young sports coach Fatima Ibrahim, who is a psychology major and the republic's champion in mixed martial arts, aims to raise awareness among the general public about the child with disabilities and to obtain all his rights to play, entertainment, learning and acceptance by others.

The young trainer, Hassan Alloush, a student of psychological counseling, agrees with her, stressing the need to develop and refine the personality of children with disabilities, increase their self-confidence, and integrate them into society properly.

As for the sports coach, Mais Al-Reem Omran, a kindergarten student and winner of the Republic Championship with physical strength, she stressed the importance of practicing sports by children in general, especially children who suffer from slow absorption, while the young woman Christine Al-Najjar, a Zumba dance trainer and a graduate of the Music Institute, saw that rhythmic dancing leads to the discharge of negative energy. In children, it also helps children who are obese.

Malvina Asaad, a law student and judo coach at the club, said: “Its mission is not limited to teaching children the game of judo, but also to develop their physical and psychological fitness, teach them strength, courage and cultivate the mind to contribute to the proper integration of children with disabilities into society.”

As for the arts coach, Yara Muhammad, who is a graduate of Arabic literature, she showed that she has experience in dealing with children, educating them and developing their abilities and skills through drawing and making various forms of art.
