Spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova considered that the inability of the IAEA delegation to visit the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is incomprehensible, especially since UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was able to visit Ukraine.
"If the Secretary-General of the United Nations visited Ukraine ... I honestly do not understand that the delegation of the International Atomic Energy Agency, one of the branches of the large United Nations family, is unable to go to the station," Zakharova said in an interview with Sputnik.
"Representatives of the International Atomic Energy Agency are waiting impatiently, and not only the employees of the Zaporozhye plant and even the whole world is already waiting for this ... taking into account what is happening around this nuclear facility and what the Kyiv regime is doing with regard to its safety," she added.
The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed earlier that Kyiv could not guarantee the safety of IAEA personnel in the event of their relocation from Ukraine-controlled territory to the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.
"The lives of IAEA officials who are planning to visit the nuclear power plant in Zaporozhye should not be in danger," Deputy Director of the Department of Arms Control and Non-Proliferation of the Russian Foreign Ministry Igor Vishnevitsky told a news briefing.
