The drought in the district of Miesbach is also affecting the fish.

Despite a rescue operation by residents and fishermen, a number of animals died in the Tiefenbach in Hausham.

Hausham

- Eventually, they couldn't watch anymore.

With buckets and bowls, the residents of the Tiefenbach in Hausham tried to save the fish that were struggling to survive in front of their houses and gardens by relocating to nearby Schlierach.

But that didn't work everywhere, two readers of our newspaper said.

"Unfortunately, any help came too late for many fish and other creek inhabitants." They were miserably suffocated.

drought is coming to a head

A dramatic example that shows how the drought is getting worse and worse in the Miesbach district.

Not only smaller bodies of water like the Tiefenbach, but also larger rivers like the Schlierach near Miesbach sometimes only resemble a sparse trickle.

The ever-widening bank areas are drying up and are even growing over in some cases.

The chairman of the Miesbach-Tegernsee district fishing association, Stefan Moser, keeps an eye on the situation.

He cannot understand the readers' accusation that the "plight of the water dwellers" was recognized too late or that too little was done.

Although Moser is on vacation at the moment, he keeps in touch with his local activists and assures them that they will do everything they can to save as many fish as possible.

Fishermen install pump

In this specific case, after consultation with the water management office in Rosenheim, a pump was installed at the flood dam on the Loidlsee, which conveys at least a few liters per second into the Tiefenbach stream below.

The main problem here is the natural course of the stream with an open bed - curiously enough, something that the fishermen otherwise welcome for better spawning conditions.

In severe drought, however, this allows the residual water to sit and evaporate even faster.

That's why the youth group of the fishing club is regularly out and about with nets and buckets, despite the pump solution.

This is also the case downstream in the Schlierach, which carries little water, especially at the Schopfgraben in Miesbach.

The hope remains that enough water will finally come down from above to ease the situation in the rivers.

If you believe the weather forecast, it could almost be too much rain in a short space of time on Friday and Saturday.

The German Weather Service (DWD) even warns of an extreme storm with flooding in streams and smaller rivers and flooding of roads.
