The police were informed of the discovery last Thursday afternoon.

The police announced that an autopsy was underway, according to the

portal .

Police representative Tofilau Faamanuia Vaaelua said the identity of the victim should first be clarified.

"Given the nature of the discovery, this could take some time," he explained.

The identity of the deceased is intended to clarify the circumstances of the case.

The family that bought the suitcases was completely unsuspicious.

On Monday, police said they appreciated the high level of public interest but had a number of inquiries to complete before commenting further.

"Police's priority is to confirm the identification of the deceased so that we can establish the full circumstances behind the discovery," a spokesman said.

"However, we are still awaiting the completion and results of the post-mortem, so we cannot comment on that."

As the portal reported, forensic teams were on the family property.

A tent was set up next to the house where the forensic scientists worked.

A neighbor told a reporter that he noticed a "nasty smell."

Another neighbor said her son saw the family bringing the suitcase from a trailer onto the property.

that it could be the remains of several bodies.

According to the police, coroners are in the process of determining the number of victims.
