Corsica: what do we know about the victims of deadly storms?

A 13-year-old girl killed at the Sagone campsite

A 13-year-old girl died after a tree fell on her bungalow.

According to France 3 Corse, several other people were also present in the house when the tree fell and were injured, one of them seriously.

62-year-old fisherman found dead

The body of a 62-year-old fisherman, whose disappearance had been reported, was also found Thursday morning in the Gulf of Girolata (Corse-du-Sud), said the spokesperson for the Maritime Prefecture.

125 rescue operations at sea were carried out in Corsica during the day, most of them for

"ships in difficulty, either with broken moorings which could have thrown them to the coast, or when they were already at sea and found themselves helpless or damaged,”

the maritime prefecture said in a statement.

first assessment of these incidents currently amounts to ten minor injuries, most following falls or shocks at sea on board their boats".

The body of a kayaker recovered at sea

At Erbalunga (Haute-Corse), in Cap Corse, the lifeless body of a kayaker, for whom the alert had been given by her husband, who had managed to take shelter, was located at the beginning of the afternoon by aerial means.

,” added the spokesman for the maritime prefecture, Thursday afternoon.

A 46-year-old man crushed by a tree in Calvi

At the end of the morning, the prefecture of Haute-Corse announced the death of a 46-year-old man in Calvi (Haute-Corse), victim of a tree falling on his bungalow.

In the same city, a 23-year-old Italian vacationer was also seriously injured and taken to hospital in Bastia.

72-year-old woman dies in Coggia

In Coggia, Corse-du-Sud, a 72-year-old woman lost her life after the roof of a straw hut fell on her vehicle.

The death toll remains provisional and could increase since at least twenty people were also injured, four of them seriously.

Corsica was preparing, moreover, Thursday evening to face new torrential rains.

The Mediterranean island, where the tourist season is in full swing, has indeed returned to orange vigilance at 9:00 p.m., for an episode that will last until at least 10:00 a.m. Friday, according to Météo-France.
