Defusing World War II bomb: traffic disrupted

After a World War II bomb was found in Berlin-Friedrichshain, police specialists began defusing it on Thursday evening.
The traffic of the S-Bahn, regional trains, long-distance trains, buses and ships in the area was interrupted;
as well as air traffic.
Before that, around 12,000 people had to leave the restricted area of around 500 meters around the site over the course of several hours.
The police said on Twitter that at least three hours would be needed to defuse it.
It is therefore expected to last at least until midnight.
With the beginning of the mitigation, traffic on the S-Bahn lines S3, S5, S7, S75 and S9 between Rummelsburg/Nöldnerplatz/Treptower Park and Ostbahnhof was interrupted, the same applies to lines S41, S42, S8 and S85 between Frankfurter Allee and Treptower Park.
In regional traffic, the FEX and the connections RE1, RE2, RE7, RB12, RB14, RB24, RB25 and RB26 are interrupted.
Bus routes 194, 347 and M43 are also affected by the closure.
Using a cutting system with high-pressure water, the two detonators on the 500-kilogram explosive device are now to be removed and then blown up.
The bomb is then to be taken to the police detonation site in Grunewald, where there was a fire a few days ago.
