The next US presidential election will take place in 2024.
Writing off Donald Trump right now would be a mistake, comments Friedemann Diederichs.
Munich – Donald Trump may be under fire from a legal point of view.
Yet he still wields tremendous influence within his party - with the ability to end careers.
Nothing shows this more clearly than Congressman Liz Cheney's vote-out in the party primary.
The daughter of former Bush Vice President Dick Cheney only got 29 percent of the vote in Wyoming.
A landslide.
Trump's revenge on his harshest critic.
Trump's supporters are behind him
The vast majority of the party sees the recent FBI action as a politically motivated abuse of justice by the Democrats.
A breach of the law by Trump is inconceivable for these claqueurs.
Meanwhile, the ex-president is deliberately promoting candidates who could help him move back into the White House in 2024.
So not only Cheney's opponent won, but also a certain Chuck Gray.
He ran for state secretary and, if successful, would oversee the next presidential election in Wyoming - and like Trump continues to support the claim that the election was stolen.
In Arizona, Trump fan Kari Lake recently won the primary for governor.
So writing off Trump for 2024 would be a mistake.
An indictment would probably mean a huge boost in motivation for his loyal base.
