An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale struck North Sulawesi, central Indonesia, today, without reports of human or material damage.
Xinhua quoted Indonesia's meteorology and climatology agency as saying that the epicenter of the quake was 47 kilometers southeast of the province's Pluang Munjundo Selatan district and at a depth of 155 kilometers under the seabed.
It is noteworthy that Indonesia is often prone to earthquakes because it is located in a region called the Pacific Ring of Fire, where earthquakes and tremors are frequent.
