Update 18.48:

Two Swiss have the edge.

The decision was extremely close.

The German participant Max Walscheid fell and injured himself.

Nevertheless, he pulled through the race.

He finished the race in 25th place. Stefan Bissegger won gold in a Swiss double victory, just three tenths ahead of his compatriot Stefan Küng, who recently won two European Championship races.

Miguel Heidemann, the second German, ended up in 16th place.

With a deficit of 1:46 minutes, Heidemann was 56 seconds faster than Walscheid, who had abrasions on his shoulder and thigh from his fall.

After the race there will be a party in downtown Brucker.

Now the stronger drivers are slowly coming.

The mood rises.

Update 17.33:

The men's race has started.

More spectators gather along the route than in the afternoon.

The atmosphere is great.

Update 16:08:

In the blazing afternoon sun, shortly before the start of the women's race, fans and onlookers lined up along the barrier in front of the monastery church.

Some still enjoyed the cooler temperatures in the shade of the beer garden before heading towards the start ramp at 2 p.m.

"I'm here because I'm from Bruck and have time," says Elisabeth R. "It's not about who wins or who loses, it's about experiencing the great atmosphere here," enthuses the Fürstenfeldbruck native.

A group standing directly at the barrier fence describes itself as real EM fans.

Franziska Stöckeler and her family are equipped with hats and flags in the colors of Germany.

"We've already followed speed climbing and beach volleyball in Munich," says the 23-year-old.

“Today we can cheer for the athletes right on our doorstep.

On a large screen at the finish line on Fürstenfelder Straße, the fans could follow which cyclist was riding where.

"She's only just arrived in Holzhausen," says a spectator standing on the side of the road about the German EM driver Lisa Klein, who is pictured on the screen.

"It will be a while before this one comes in."

Update 16:03:

The German cyclists did not win a medal in their first decision on the road at the European Championships in Munich/Fürstenfeldbruck.

The track European champions Lisa Brennauer (Durach) in twelfth place and Lisa Klein (Erfurt) in 23rd place missed the top ten in the time trial with start and finish in Fürstenfeldbruck on Wednesday.

After 24 kilometers, the 34-year-old from Brennau was 1:58.00 minutes behind European Champion Marlen Reusser from Switzerland with a time of 32:57.73 minutes.

The 26-year-old Klein was 3:36.00 minutes slower than the title holder.

World champion Ellen van Dijk from the Netherlands won silver ahead of her compatriot Riejanne Markus.

"It really didn't go that well today.

Of course, twelfth place is not at all the result I was hoping for,”

said Lisa Brennauer after the penultimate race of her career.

On the other hand, she was impressed by the atmosphere along the route.

"People carried me around the course even though my legs were so heavy," she said.

After Sunday's road race, the seven-time world champion will retire.

Lisa Klein was also not satisfied with her result.

“The race was good at the beginning.

I love time trials.

And then halfway through the race I exploded and then it was a very long way back,” she said.

She ran out of air and got stitches in the side, which she did not know about herself.

"Then nothing worked anymore," said Erfurt, who was unable to train properly in the run-up to the European Championship due to a severe corona infection.

It’s getting serious for the German road cyclist team.

The athletes are in the starting blocks.

The racers have been testing the track over the past few days.

Brennauer now has the chance to win the third precious metal at this European Championship.

She has already won gold on the track in the team pursuit – with Lisa Klein on the team, with whom she has also won Olympic gold – and silver in the individual pursuit.

Now, in the hours before the start, the first fan groups are forming along the route.

In Landsberied, residents drew "Welcome" and "Servus" on the street with chalk.

"In a spontaneous action, young and old met and had a lot of fun," writes Caroline Müller.

There are two fan zones in Landsberied: one on Schloßbergstrasse.

There is a bouncy castle, table football, drinks, music and a barbecue.

Drinks and a speed check are available at the Dorfplatz bus stop.

According to Carolin Müller, all Landsberieder are called upon to line up with flags, costumes and fan articles.
