Daniel Scherning will be the new head coach at Arminia Bielefeld, who have been relegated to the Bundesliga.

The 38-year-old coach comes from the third division club VfL Osnabrück, the East Westphalian football club confirmed on Thursday.

Several media had previously reported that Bielefeld agreed with Scherning after the separation from coach Uli Forte.

Bielefeld - "Daniel Scherning has our full confidence in turning the tide and stabilizing our team.

His previous work as head coach and his career with Arminia for many years give us the conviction to solve the upcoming tasks," said Arminia's sporting director Samir Arabi.

Bielefeld had lost four league games in a row under Forte.

Scherning, who led the first training session on Thursday and is to be officially presented on Friday, still had a contract in Osnabrück until 2023, so a transfer fee is likely to be due.

Born in Paderborn, he had already worked for Arminia between 2010 and 2016 as assistant and head coach of the second team.

“I always really enjoyed being at Arminia.

Now the circle is closing, so to speak.

And from today we will tackle and work hard to be successful with Arminia,” said the new head coach.

Forte only took over as coach in Bielefeld at the beginning of the season.

The 48-year-old Italian, who was in charge of a German club for the first time, had a difficult time right from the start. In the first competitive game he saw a red card that was later described as "by mistake" and lost with his team at SV Sandhausen.

The Bielefeld team only had to counter three further defeats in the league against Jahn Regensburg, Hansa Rostock and Hamburger SV with a 7:1 in the DFB Cup at Oberliga side SV Engers 07.
