The Lac des Brenets in the Jura has completely dried up.

Now green is growing where there was mud a week ago.

Les Brenets/Munich - The catastrophe has become apparent.

Slowly but surely, the water was disappearing from Lac des Brenets in the Jura, on the border between Switzerland and France.

But where just a few weeks ago a trickle meandered through the murky morass, a completely new world has now opened up: the boats at the jetties are now lying on a green meadow.

This is reported

by Blick.ch.

Only a few puddles are said to be evidence of the lake, which was once 18 meters deep.

Shipping on Lac des Brenets had to be suspended as early as July due to the low water level.

Now there is almost nothing left of the lake.

Green grows on the mud of the lake in the Swiss canton of Neuchâtel.

The popular excursion destination has been endangered for several years.

In the past few years, the level is said to have been extraordinarily low seven times.

Drought in Switzerland: Lac des Brenets has been in danger for years – tourists still come

The lake had already completely disappeared in the drought of 2018.

And in August 2020, the Saut-du-Doubs, the highest waterfall in the Jura Mountains, dried up.

The waterfall feeds from the Lac des Brenets.

A problem that seems to be increasing.

Urgently needed rain has been announced in Switzerland for the coming days. However, it is questionable whether it will be enough to ease the dramatic situation of drought.

It is not clear whether and to what extent Lac des Brenets will recover.

But not only dried up lakes and rivers are keeping Europe busy in this drought in the summer of 2022 - there could also be a shortage of electricity.

For the time being, there were no tourist slumps at Lac des Brenets,

Nau.ch

reported a few weeks ago under the title "Lac des Brenets NE: Now the disaster tourists are coming".

Many apparently wanted to see the evil with their own eyes.

A sad highlight in the summer vacation of 2022, which is likely to be characterized by drought and dryness in many places.

In France, Lac des Brenets is not the first empty basin.

Among other things, the Loire River has dried up.

The country is also ravaged by forest fires.

And in Germany, too, there is no relief in sight for the time being.

Much more announces a new hot week.

A weather expert speaks of the "permanent drought mode".
