Today, the French authorities announced that five people were killed and dozens injured as a result of thunderstorms that hit the French island of Corsica.
And the Associated Press quoted the National Meteorological Agency as saying: "Strong winds of more than 220 kilometers per hour hit the island of Corsica, killing five people and injuring dozens who were taken to hospitals for treatment."
The Meteorological Agency pointed out that the island recorded more rain in a few hours than the rain that fell during the past few months combined.
About 45,000 families were left without electricity due to the storms, and more than 100 ships were parked, wrecked or stuck in the area.
The Mediterranean Maritime Authority said that there are about 60 rescue operations underway along the western coast of Corsica to help the ships.
