London-Sana

Thousands of railway workers in Britain today began a new round of strikes that have paralyzed trains across the country.

And the Associated Press reported that "only one in five trains is currently operating in Britain due to workers' strikes following disagreements with the government over wages and working conditions that have been exacerbated by the cost of living."

Further strikes on Friday and Saturday are expected to disrupt the London Underground network and bus service in the capital.

"The government's anti-union agenda is prolonging labor conflict," said Mick Lynch, president of the Union of Railroads and Shipping.

"Rail workers, like other public sector employees in Britain, are struggling to deal with rising food and fuel prices," Lynch told The Associated Press.

Inflation in Britain exceeds 9 percent, and the central bank expects it to rise to 13 percent next autumn, coinciding with the rise in energy bills.

The government considers it fair wages to railway workers and says it has been forced to use public funding to protect railway workers' jobs during the Corona pandemic.

For his part, a spokesman for the British Ministry of Transport: "For the sixth time since last June, union leaders are disrupting the daily lives of millions rather than working to reach an agreement."

And last Saturday, train drivers in 9 companies carried out a 24-hour strike that caused the suspension of services in many parts of England, Scotland and Wales. Last July, train drivers carried out a historic strike, which was followed by regular demonstrations.
