Hard punishment for a young criminal: Kevin M. (19) has to go to prison for two years and four months for ripping off senior citizens.

In addition to the prison sentence, there are now high debts.

Munich – Kevin M. (19) is led to the district court in a plain white T-shirt.

He doesn't look like a serious criminal.

But his trial was tough: The 19-year-old is accused of three cases of senior citizen rip-off.

He even has to go to jail now.

Because the judiciary in Bavaria shows no mercy when it comes to the "fake police officers" scam - the damage caused by organized call center gangs is too bad.

For years, these have been well into the millions.

And seniors not only lose their money, but often also their will to face life.

The punishment for the young criminal was correspondingly harsh: Kevin M. (19) had to go to prison for two years and four months for ripping off senior citizens.

According to the public prosecutor's office, he made a total of 55,000 euros as a "fake policeman".

But now it's over: the district court convicted the 19-year-old of commercial gang fraud in three cases.

In March, Kevin M. is said to have joined a criminal gang of call center scammers.

According to the indictment, they wanted to bring about the "greatest possible loss of assets" among seniors.

The scam: the elderly are told on the phone that they are in danger, a gang of burglars have them on the list - now the police have to secure their valuables.

But it's not a commissioner on the phone, it's one of the scammer bosses who are mostly based in Turkey.

They recruit young men from Munich who are then supposed to pick up the loot from the seniors - like Kevin M. They are promised quick money.

M. received up to 700 euros per case.

But seniors often lose all their savings: 16,200 euros on March 7 for a 79-year-old, 29,500 euros on March 8 for an 89-year-old and 10,000 euros on March 9 for a 64-year-old.

The judiciary also shows no mercy when picking you up: you face imminent jail.

And what criminals don't know: In addition to being imprisoned, they also have to pay for the damage caused to the elderly - and often sink into immense debt.

The judiciary calls this process, which obliges fraudsters to make amends, “collection of value compensation”.

A term young men should remember well when contacted by the gangs.
